Yearly Archives: 2021

Barrels, Price and Lead Times.

As 2021 draws to a close, so does the orders for 2022. Who would have thought that 18 months ago we would go from business as normal and lead times for barrels being the best Australia has ever seen, to now having to think about what the market wants in 12 to 18 months time.  This brings with it a unique set of challenges. Here at 7mm we have alway strived to have barrels in stock of the popular calibers / profiles and twist rates.  This unfortunately took a hit with the forced closure by the Qld Government last year, and we have been on the back foot ever since.  We will get our stock levels back to where they need to be, but it is going to take 12 to 18 months.

We are currently working with our financial broker to secure funding so we can place the largest order we have ever placed, at around  400 barrels. This is to ensure we have stock on hand into the future, unfortunately this will take 12 months before we see it on the shelves.  In addition to this Bartlein have advised that due to the cost of steel increasing they are unable to continue to absorb the cost and there will be a price rise effective now.  We are waiting to see what this will mean for us on pricing once the new figures come through.  We are looking at options to help offset this price increase, however there are often trade off’s.  For us this could mean we move from airfreight to sea freight, however this adds 8 weeks to any orders due to transit times. While this may be fine for stock orders, customers who order more custom specification barrels may not want to wait the additional 8 weeks. For these orders we are looking at continuing the air freight option, however it will come with a surcharge, until air freight prices ease, as overseas travel picks up.

So the challenges remain for the next 12 to 18 months as the nation begins to come out of the government imposed lockdowns, and everyone return to the ranges around the country.  Stay tuned to the web site and as we get a clearer picture over the coming weeks, on order schedules for the next 12 months.

As always if you have any questions drop us an email.  I always try to respond in 24hours, work commitments permitting.

Centretrac Stocks

In today’s world of competition shooting, the target is getting smaller, the recoil is heavier, and the technology is changing the way we approach the firing line.

Centretrac target rifle stocks are designed and manufactured to keep you on target, track accurately and made to feel like an extension ofA your arm. Our target rifle stocks are manufactured with aluminum bedding blocks and stainless-steel pillars. Our bedding blocks are installed using steel templates to keep the barreled action parallel to the stock, with a sufficient gap around the barrel, action and trigger so that the harmonics are not impeded.

Centretrac is an Australian family owned and operated company, located in Cairns, Queensland. All our stocks are manufactured under the direct supervision of Mark Azzopardi. Mark began shooting on his father’s farm and started target rifle shooting in the early 90’s.

Mark has won an F-open National Championship and Queens prizes in F-Tr and Target Rifle. Mark is currently one of the Australian F-Open coaches, driving the national team forward to compete in the World Championship in South Africa, 2023. As such, he understands the complexity of the varying disciplines and what it takes to win, and it all starts with a good foundation – the stock.

Upcoming Shipments / Current Stock

We have updated the current stock to reflect a recent shipment that has arrived.  Unfortunately, this shipment was 90% custom orders, i.e. Stock we don’t traditionally hold. However we did manage to get some stock levels up on 7mm, 30 Cal, 6mm and 6.5mm.

Shipments – The next shipment is due for completion in June. This is a medium size shipment of stock barrels in mostly 30 cal and 7mm.  Our next shipment after this is due in December and then again in late January 2022.  Orders for these are now closed.  If you are looking for a custom profile / twist rate that we don’t stock, the best we can do is add it to the next shipment for custom orders due in March. Close off date for this is June 30.

As always, any questions or comments, please feel free to email us.

Lead Times.

As some of you may have seen we have had little to no stock over the past 12 months.  Things are changing slowly, with a recent shipment arriving, and two more due this year.  What we are still seeing unfortunately is lead times now extending out to around 7 months.  To over come this we are changing the way we order our standard stock line of barrels. This will mean that orders for custom calibers, twist rates and profiles we will only be doing 3 orders per year.  Once we have established when these dates will be, we will ensure that they are published on the website and out through our social media.
