WARNING:
- The SIXTEEN SOUTH TRIGGER – Barnard has been designed for competition target shooting on a supervised and licenced rifle range only, in a controlled environment. In parallel with some other contemporary triggers designed only for target use, it has no safety lever, and as such it CANNOT be used in a hunting or general field environment.
- Always have a competent, qualified and licenced armourer/gunsmith fit and adjust the trigger before use and at any other time necessary.
- Always check that the firearm is UNLOADED before making any adjustments to the trigger.
- RECHECK that the firearm is unloaded.
- If the trigger behaves in an unexpected manner, CEASE USING IT IMMEDIATELY until such time that maintenance and rectifying action can be undertaken.
- Your use of the SIXTEEN SOUTH TRIGGER – Barnard confirms that you accept all responsibility and/or liability associated with its use. You confirm you are properly licenced in your jurisdiction and properly supervised on a licenced rifle range before the use of the SIXTEEN SOUTH TRIGGER – Barnard. You confirm you shall be the sole user of the trigger. You confirm that you will hold blameless any parties associated with the manufacture or distribution of the SIXTEEN SOUTH TRIGGER – Barnard resulting from its use.
Fitting and Adjustment:
- Always have a competent, qualified and licenced armourer/gunsmith fit and adjust the trigger before use and at any other time necessary.
- The trigger has been manufactured to tolerances which fit snugly into the trigger slot in the Barnard Action. Over the years of manufacture, Barnard have had slight manufacturing variations. Ensure that when fitting, that the front trigger screw is snugged sufficiently to remove or minimise any gap between the upper rear of the trigger and the trigger slot in the action into which it seats.
- Firearms need to be UNLOADED while adjusting the trigger and at any other time when not deliberately engaged in live firing. It is required practice to have an independent person crosscheck the firearm is unloaded before proceeding with trigger adjustments.
- Screw “S” is the sear engagement screw. “W” is the trigger weight screw. See over for screw designations.
- Starting with the trigger weight screw “W”, adjust for preferred trigger weight. CW for greater weight, CCW for lower weight. NOTE: There is a minimum settable weight. The trigger shoe must be able to reset itself after each shot. To check this with the current weight of pull set, pull and slide your finger off the trigger shoe. The trigger shoe should spring back to its parked position. This will be evident by hearing a faint click as the sear screw contacts its stop.
- Screw “S” controls sear engagement. CW reduces sear engagement. CCW increases sear engagement. This screw should rarely need adjustment.
- If only a minor adjustment is needed from an existing starting point, first recheck trigger shoe is seating correctly per para 5 NOTE. Then the sear engagement screw can be adjusted in 1/16 turn increments until the rifle passes vigorous bolt closure without the firing pin falling and the trigger pull is crisp.
- If the starting point is unknown, first recheck trigger shoe is seating correctly per para 5 NOTE. Turn sear engagement screw CCW until the action stays cocked. Then turn the sear engagement screw CW until the firing pin falls. Turn the Sear engagement screw back 90 degrees CCW from this point. Check sear engagement with vigorous bolt closure. Adjust sear engagement screw in 1/16 turn increments as necessary to ensure the firing pin remains captive, and that trigger pull is crisp.
